Hartree received a commendation at the Thornton Education Trust’s Inspire Future Generations (IFG) Awards for our Child-Friendly Design Strategy earlier this week.

The IFG Awards champion outstanding initiatives, organisations, and individuals who are bridging the gap between the built environment and young people. We entered into the Research - Pedagogy or Practice Based category, which was contested by a number of other fantastic projects, and were delighted to pick up this award for our work in ensuring that Hartree will be a place designed with the needs of children and young people at its centre.

Underpinned by the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, and informed by extensive engagement with children and young people, our Child-Friendly Design Strategy aims to integrate child-friendly placemaking principles into the core of the proposals for Hartree. The strategy adopts a site-wide approach that enables children’s independence, mobility, access to play, and opportunities for social interaction. This will ensure that Hartree is a safe and inclusive place that caters to the needs of children and young people.

We would like to thank the IFG Awards team for hosting this event, and to congratulate all winners, commendations, and participants of this year’s competition!
