We had a fantastic time hosting the People City Planet Festival at Shirley Community Primary School in Chesterton on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October. Over 400 came down for a fun two days of music, food, magic, circus performances, face-painting, and, of course, to provide vital feedback on the early-stage plans for the Core Site. Attendees also had the opportunity to vote on their favourite names for the Core Site from among the four that had been nominated.
If you are yet to fill our the survey on the early-stage plans, you can do here.
If you are yet to cast a vote on the name, please do so here.
There was a huge programme of events that included fascinating talks and interactive workshops all devised and delivered by the award-winning design team. The feedback gathered at the workshops and through the survey will be crucial in shaping design decisions made for the Core Site going forward.
Commenting on the success of the festival, Ben Cartwright, Development Director at U+I, one of the master developers at the Core Site, said:
“The People City Planet Festival was a fantastic showcase of our project values in action. It was great to welcome so many people to the Festival to enjoy the activities and find out more about the project. We will be taking all the feedback we received away from the event and evolving the masterplan for the project based on what we have heard.”
Jonny Anstead, Director of master developer partner TOWN, said:
“The festival was a great way to meet and talk to people living and working locally and hopefully people had some fun too while finding out about the development.
Over the course of the next year, we will be undertaking plenty of other engagement events which will provide more opportunities to input into the master planning process.”
Anna Smith, Leader of Cambridge City Council, said:
“I am really impressed with the creative work that is being done to plan this new quarter of Cambridge as a place for people, and I would like to thank everyone involved in the People City Planet Festival for their hard work, and contribution to a fantastic event. Northeast Cambridge offers exceptional opportunities to develop an exemplary new district which can address the vital need for homes and make a significant contribution to our aspirations for a net zero-carbon Cambridge.
Really close engagement is crucial, and we want to make sure both current and future communities are involved in the design of the Core Site. That's going to be fundamental in making it a successful, sustainable and integrated new part of our wonderful city.”
